1. In these first few weeks of the class I have learned a lot about public speaking. Public speaking is a lot like writing an essay. You are trying to convey an idea or statement to an audience through spoken word rather than written. The structure and organization is very similar as well. You structure a speech with the IBC pattern. You have an intro, body and conclusion. Using this method allows your speech to have a direction and stay organized. The intro is used to grab the attention of your audience and to provide an overview of your main points. The body presents your main points with the support of examples and details. The conclusion wraps up your main ideas and points and refers back to the introduction. The conclusion also leaves the audience thinking or poses a thought provoking question. All sources must be cited no matter how big or small. You must maintain your credibility as a speaker and display proper ethics. There are also tools to help get the point of your speech across to your audience such as visual aids like power point. I have also learned the effectiveness of team work. Giving team presentations has allowed me to learn the importance of the soft skills of listening, compromise and communication. Teamwork is something used in professional settings a lot so getting a good grab on working with others is essential. I have learned a lot about public speaking in these short 4 weeks of class.
2. My learning technique, time management and learning attitude has definitely been effective in this course. I am a visual and hands on learner so Mrs. Magabo does a great job in giving us visual aids and examples to back up her points presented in class. She also allows the students to give their input, ideas and become involved in the lesson. I believe this makes retaining information easier and very effective. Time management is also essential in this class. We have been preparing for over speeches since the beginning of class. Timely preparation is essential to delivering an effective speech. I enjoy this class and look forward to learning more and new material every time I go to class.
3. I believe my instructor does a great job with her teaching style. She makes the class enjoyable by allow the students to participate rather than just lecturing to us. The use of power point presentations is very effective in getting main ideas of the lesson across. She provides many examples and details to ensure that we understand the material being presented. She also is very effective in the variety of assignments and activities she has planned. We play games, see videos and work in groups all effect teaching methods. The instructor shows enthusiasm when teaching and is extremely nice also making the class very enjoyable. I believe if you enjoy a class you will learn a lot. I have enjoyed this class so far and have learned a lot about speech communication. I look forward to the remained of the semester.

1. I have learned a lot during this period of speech deliveries. I have learned the importance of proper preparation, citing sources, and peer evaluation. Giving a speech requires a lot of preparation and practice. It is very evident when the speaker is not properly prepared. Therefore I have learned the importance of doing my research and organizing my speech in a way that is understandable as well as clear to the audience. No one in class is an expert in any field or subject matter therefore the citation of sources is crucial. Citing sources gives you credibility as a speaker. It gives the material being presented a foundation to stand on. The citation of sources makes your information that much stronger. Peer evaluation is a crucial step in the learning process. No one is perfect and constant improvement could be made. Peer evaluation gives you the information needed to make those improvements. I have also learned a lot about myself by evaluating others. I recognize the benefits of peer evaluation and see all the areas that I could improve in. Also by watching and critiquing others you see the points that have been stress in class become evident such as citing sources. When you see a person deliver a speech without citing sources you question where the information came from and how strong it really is. This speech process of preparing, delivering and evaluating as allowed me to learn a lot.
2. I believe that Denna’s speech stood out to me. She delivered a speech drinking and driving a topic that had emotional relevance to her therefore her speech was full of emotion. She backed her sources up with citations giving her a lot of credibility as a speaker. My favorite part about her speech was the video she showed. It was very powerful although graphic. I believe although her topic can easily teeter totter between informative and persuasive she stayed focused and delivered a good informative speech.
3. This is a difficult question to answer because I do not know who to single out as a sole person who has showed strong leadership skills. It is difficult to display leadership skills in an assignment that is very focused on the individual opposed to the group.
4. I believe that Theo has showed good collaboration skills because he faced adversity choosing a topic to deliver his speech on. Although he flip flopped he was able to collaborate with the instructor in order to find common ground and a topic that was best suited for him. He was successful in doing so and was able to deliver a good informative speech.
5. All my peers evaluations were positive leading me to earn an A on my speech. Because these comments were so positive I will use them as motivation to deliver another A performance on my persuasive speech.

1. After delivering my persuasive speech I’ve learned a lot. Presenting a persuasive speech is different than any of our pervious speeches. A persuasive speech encompasses a lot of information as well as trying to sway your audience to agreeing or disagreeing with you. I believe that I have improved a lot in my speech delivery. This speech gave me the opportunity to elaborate more on the information I was presenting. I tried to relate my points to topics that everyone could understand. I believe by making the connection with the audience allowed me to get my point across easily.
2. I believe that Theo’s speech was delivered well. He made a strong connection with the audience and allowed everyone to relate to his points. He delivered his speech with great confidence. I really liked that he presents his points in more of a conversation type style rather than simply lecturing. I think that this allows the audience to keep their attention focused on the speech. It is easily to let your mind drift if the person is simply lecturing.
3. I believe that the whole class has shown great leadership skills as the semester has gone on. In the beginning no one wanted to volunteer to speak, but as the semester goes on people’s confidence has risen and allows them to volunteer a lot more. The class has grown since the beginning and matured to the point where various people are capable of exhibiting good leadership skills.
4. I also believe that the whole class has shown great collaboration skills. Towards the end of the semester Mrs. Magabo suggested evaluating the speakers as a group. Everyone has taken the initiative to work as a group and evaluate the speakers effectively. Good evaluations are key to the learning experience. There is always room for improvement so your peer’s opinions could be very useful.
5. All of my evaluations were positive and give me the motivation to continue to prepare effectively and deliver my speeches well.
